Head of AIDS Infoshare Foundation Has Joined the Official Delegation for the UN High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS

Alena Peryshkina, Head of AIDS Infoshare Foundation has joined the Official Delegation, which will represent the Russian Federation at the UN High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS taking place 8-10 June 2016 in New York. Representatives of different Russian Ministries and non-profit organisations, engaged into HIV prevention and treatment in Russian plan to participate in the meeting. Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Health of the RF is a Head of the Delegation

 “Combating the epidemic of HIV/AIDS is the matter that must be solved to ensure sustainable global and regional social and economic development. Thanks to the range of  assistance projects and programmes for foreign states,  that have been implemented with support from the Government of the Russian Federation on bilingual basis and with participation of UN agencies for the last 10 years in the CIS countries, Southeast Asia countries and in Africa, the Russian Federation has become one of major partners in solving international health issues”, says Alena Peryshkina, Head of AIDS Infoshare Foundation.

The Russian Technical Assistance Programme in Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries within the frame of which the Rospotrebnadzor, the UNAIDS and AIDS Infoshare Foundation assisted Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries in   their prevention, control and surveillance  of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases throughout 2013-2105 is an outstanding example of such projects. Further implementation of the set of activities proved their efficiency to prevent HIV/AIDS and to strengthen the potential of chosen countries of the region to combat the diseases is planned for 2015-2018.

Yelena Yezhlova, Head of Epidemiological Surveillance Administration of the Consumers Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Supervising Federal Service, Natalia Ladnaya, Senior Research Associate, Federal Science and Methodology AIDS Centre, Liliya Taisheva, Director General of Novyi Vek NGO also have joined the Russian Delegation.

 “While working in partnership with the UN and public organisation, significant results have been achieved and abilities  have been demonstrated by Russia as donor country to substitute effectively some international development programmes in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This is happening when international organisations are decreasing their funding and the countries lack resources for healthcare”, emphasised Yelena Yezhlova, Head of Epidemiological Surveillance Administration of the Consumers Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Supervising Federal Service.

When addressing the participants of the meeting Veronika Skvortsova, said that the success  of HIV combating strategies implementation depended first of all on the efficiency of national programmes sharing common global goals and taking into account requirements of national legislations. She ensured the audience that the Russian Federation will participate in reducing HIV/AIDS burden worldwide, taking proactive position and suggesting effective measures.

At the UN High Level Meeting, the United Nations Member States plan to adopt the new Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS, focusing on its critical importance to implement Fast-Track approach. Signing this document will be an important step forward in eliminating AIDS epidemic within the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
